Coaching Resources From The Club Head Coach
Goalkeeper- Your Number One Player Dear Coach, I really enjoy playing as a goalkeeper but I feel that I am not part of the team when it comes to training. Don’t get me wrong, your sessions are awesome and the team responds well to what they are being taught but I feel left out. I feel that I am being used for target practice when we are training and there is no time spent with me to teach or help develop my technical abilities. It’s like my only responsibility to our team is stopping the ball from going in the net, and that’s it. When it comes to game time you are telling me; that’s your ball; dominate your box; don’t hesitate; hold onto the ball; step to the ball; get your body behind it; take control of your defenders, etc, etc. Coach I watch soccer on TV and I see the saves that my idols make and I wish I could make that same save or look like them….but I don’t know how! Is there anyway that I can get some help? Your Star, Johnny Does this sound familiar? This sums it up as to what I witness on a daily basis as a club head coach. The kids do not understand what they are supposed to do in their net. They are not technically developed and they feel they are special but in the way of being denied the teaching and training for their specific position.
